Work From Home Doing What You Love

In 2008, I decided to do just that, to create this website. Why? Because my dream was to share my knowledge and experience in Career Counseling, with as many people as possible.

I knew of so many people who were in desperate need of this kind of information. People who were out of work, and feeling helpless, discouraged, and stuck with no where to turn. Those who were facing layoffs, outsourcing, downsizing in their workplace, people who wanted to change jobs, to get out of jobs they hated, and find something that they loved.

But they had no one to help them, no idea how to go about getting out of the rut they were in. Either they weren't near a city where Career Counselors work, or if they could find a counselor, they couldn't afford it.

I wanted to create a website that would empower people to help themselves, by doing their own career assessment using 5 Easy Career Tests the ones that give them access to the same results as they would get from traditional career counseling.

And then once they finished the testing, and knew their own needs, gifts, abilities and talents, I would guide them through how to do their own Career Exploration using the strategies that career counselors tell their clients about.

So I began to search for information on how to create a website that would let me do this.

I knew I needed a lot of help.

Once I'd formulated this dream, it was only two months later that I was talking to a friend of mine who showed me his website, and told me how he had started it, just three years before. I was impressed with what I saw, but I wondered how in the world, could I possibly do that.

He encouraged me. He said it wasn't as difficult as it looked, if you took it one step at a time. He had found a Web Hosting Service called SiteSell, where they took you by the hand, and showed you step-by-step how it was done.

He also told me that the domain name was included in the price, so I didn't have to buy that separately. And they would take care of the renewals for me.

Since I knew I could trust him, and I also knew that like me, he was no expert in creating websites, yet I could see the great website he had created, I decided to give it a try for one year.

It was a steep learning curve for me, but I was determined. I read through the detailed instructions, and followed the suggestions. I began by using their "training wheels". They call it the "Block Builder". It's for people who know nothing about website development.

I couldn't believe how easy it was to write my pages and then get them out on the internet for people to see, and benefit from. You write the page, then they have a tool that analyses it for you, and tells you what you need to adjust or correct, to make it acceptable to the Search Engines.

Then you preview it and tweak it until you get it the way you like it. When you are ready you tell the automated block builder to upload the page to the internet, and it goes live for everyone to see.

I've now got over 80 pages on my website. I can't tell you, how personally satisfying it is to know how many people I'm reaching with this website. I know I'm making a lot of people's lives better because, they write me and tell me how much I've helped them.
