FINDING THE LUCK IN YOUR LIFEIn spite of the mishaps that happen each day, I insist on looking for the luck in my life. I believe that we always have control of how we feel, and feeling lucky is the key to attracting it into your life. Looking for Luck in an Unlucky Situation Here is an example of how luck intervenes when you let it. At six o'clock one evening, I was taking the groceries out of the trunk of my car, when I heard a soft hissing coming from the back right tire. I found a screw lodged in the center of the tire, which was rapidly deflating. The thought occurred to me: "Where will I find a service station open at this late hour?" But I had no time to debate it. Quickly I hopped back into the car and went out into the heavy traffic to find someone who could change my tire. Within 10 minutes, I'd located a place nearby, with one mechanic inside who was just shutting down for the night. He came out and in 5 minutes flat (pardon the pun) yanked out the screw, plugged, sealed and inflated the tire, without even taking it off the wheel. To me that was amazing, bordering on the miraculous! What was great about that situation?
An Unexpected Turn of Events Being proactive, in an effort to supplement my income, I accepted an invitation to attend a day long Internet Marketing Seminar, at a downtown hotel. They offered the 300 attendees a free 3 course lunch, and we learned all about Internet Marketing. But the software they were selling was too expensive for my budget, so I passed on it. At six o'clock, as we came out of the seminar, however, a couple of people including myself, discovered $50 tickets on our cars. Since we'd paid $15 for the day, to park in the hotel parkade, we thought there had been some mistake. But Hotel Reception told us that they did not manage their parking lot, they had a private Parking Company do that for them. It was therefore at the discretion of the attendant to award tickets as needed. We discovered that we had placed the wrong part of the $15 receipt on the dash and that deserved a $50 fine. I decided not to let it get me down. After all:
"As luck would have it", when I went over to the Parking Office to pay the ticket and told them the story, they decided to cancel it. Lucky or What? The Characteristics of Lucky People When things go wrong, the lucky turn bad luck into good, by seeing how they can squeeze some benefit out of it. We have far greater control over events in our lives than we imagine. Why? Because we can influence events by the way we think. How do lucky people think? They listen to their intuitive or gut feelings. They are open to new experiences. Unlucky people are stuck in routines. When they see something new, they shy away from it. Lucky people seek out the new. They are prepared to take risks, and are relaxed enough to notice the opportunities in front of them. To be luckier, we need to adopt a more relaxed attitude . . . . . . to be less focused, less driven, and less goal-oriented . . . . . . to take the blinkers off, to avoid developing tunnel vision. This allows us to be open to the new, the chance happenings that come our way, to see the opportunities around us in the unexpected. Seeing the positive in the negative Unlucky people say, "I can't believe I've been in another smash-up." Lucky people say, "Yes, I had an accident, but I wasn't killed. And I've learned something from this that I'll always remember." What is interesting is that both ways of thinking are unconscious and automatic. It would never occur to the unlucky person to see it a different way. And it would never occur to the Lucky Person to see it any other way. Want To Become Lucky? Keep a 'Luck Diary'. At the end of each day, spend a couple of moments writing down only the positive and lucky things that happened. When circumstances take an unexpected turn, just look for the hidden benefits. At the end of each week, look back over how lucky you've been. After doing this for a month, you may start thinking how lucky you are.
